We are the first generation to feel the impact of climate change and the last generation that can do something about it...

It was an absolute privilege to listen to Mary Robinson today.  Mary is a former President of Ireland, former Human Rights Commissioner for the UN and now a Special Envoy on Climate Change for the UN.  A trailblazer for women's, LGBT and Human rights, she is absolutely convinced that Climate Change is THE issue of this millennium.  Security of all types including food security, economic development and human rights are all bound up in the struggle that we face to be zero carbon by 2050.  At the current rate the world will heat by over 2 degrees which will be absolutely catastrophic wiping out countries, causing violent weather, widespread famine and displacement of tens of millions of people.

Mary is a Graduate of Harvard Law and she was in town to receive the Richard E. Neustadt Award.  The award is bestowed annually to honor one or more individuals for creating powerful solutions to public problems, drawing on research and intellectual ideas as appropriate.
