It's official - Mid Career MPAs are fruit loops

The incredibly brave but foolhardy Aaron, Dario and Craig holding Jenny by John Harvard Statue in the yard. I might remind you that the weather has been negative Fahrenheit - now that's cold.

Live at the Apollo

Last night, the JFK Forum was transformed into the Apollo Theatre - the venue responsible for launching the entertainment careers of many famous African Americans.

Vedette and Derwin from the mid career cohort were fantastic hosts. Here they are with Fricandia - a mid career dance troupe.

Smart City Hackathon - Team Holyoke OK

Knowledge cramming

Busy this week attending a whole bunch of seminars on women and leadership, social media, advocacy, public-private partnerships, privacy and cartooning.

Unfortunately because a lot of them overlap you end up leaving early and arriving late in order to get to as many as you can.

Holy Stalagtite, Batman

Like something out of an Agatha Christie novel, these babies could kill you in the dead of the night and melt away leaving nary a trace. Solve that Hercule Poirot!

Pool and Guinness with Zoz

Despite another blizzard, I braved the snow drifts to spend a late afternoon drinking Guinness and playing pool with Zoz at his favorite dive bar in South Boston.  T closed at 7 pm and after a 50 minute wait I got the last train back to Cambridge

Time Lapse 2

Bike almost completely covered.  Table has nice snow dome....

OK God, We Give Up!

See the amusing coda at the end from Executive Dean John Haigh of the Kennedy School.....

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:

We have been closely monitoring the winter storm that is expected to bring an additional 18-24 inches of snow to the Cambridge/Boston area through Monday evening.  Driving is expected to be hazardous in many areas, and Governor Baker is urging all Massachusetts employers to suspend operations tomorrow and residents to stay off the roads.  Cambridge, Boston, Somerville and many other communities have instituted snow emergency parking bans and the MBTA will be running an abbreviated schedule.

For the safety of our community, HKS will be closed on Monday, and all events and Degree Programs classes will be cancelled.  We expect to resume normal operations as of Tuesday morning.

We will continue to closely monitor the storm.  If the situation worsens dramatically and further schedule changes are warranted, we will notify you via email and MessageMe.  Updates will also be posted on the HKS homepage and emergency info line (617-495-1033).

Please be safe during this storm, and if you have any special connections with mother nature please tell her we surrender.

Best,
John

God boy has a mini-he

My god boy Rax has just had a wee bairn (Shona actually did all the work).  No name yet so I shall call him "mini-he".....

Congrats Shona and Alex!

Any port in a storm....

A homeless person fashioned this igloo out of the snow piled against a tree, as a means of escaping the bitter cold. Sadly,  it had been caved in when I walked past later, probably by Harvard Police or other Harvard personnel, as it was in front of one of the Undergraduate Houses. I hope he or she found somewhere warm to shelter.

Dan's Blog

One of my Match4Democracy team mates, Dan, has blogged about the Hack4Congress event here

Go Pats!

The New England Patriots take the Superbowl after an error by Seattle's quarter back, Russell Wilson in throwing not running the ball when they were in a position to score a certain touchdown.

Blizzard!

Irritatingly, K School refuses to close although getting to school means climbing over 3 foot snow drifts (which I did to go and get some milk).  Thankfully my one class for today is at B School, and it was sensibly cancelled.

Half Time at the Super Bowl

The half time show at the Super Bowl is legendary.  This year was no exception with Katy Perry bringing the house down with a spectacular light and stage show.  The score in the Super Bowl - 14 apiece....

A little bit of hometown support for the Patriots......a super bowl cookie.

Hack4Congress part 2

 Guillaume

 The dreaded timer....

Introducing @Match4Democracy

This is the project Clara, Guillaume, Dan, Ceci and I worked on as part of the 2 day Hack4Congress at K School. The objective of Match4Democracy is to raise the levels of bipartisanship in Congress by identifying issues and matching representatives to try to reach consensus. Congress currently operates at a level of hyperpartisanship unprecedented in the history of the Union.  As of August 2014 the count of bills passed stood at a miserly 23.

Match4Democracy uses a kick starter model which allows citizens to pledge donations to their favorite charity , in exchange for politicians from both parties agreeing to discuss the donor's issue and undertake a number of steps, including meeting for dinner and agreeing to make a joint statement.   Each step releases more of the money to the charity.

Way to go, baby bro!

My brother John completed his first half marathon - in Thailand - at age 46.  I am so proud of him.
